Hemmings’ solo venture follows the announcement of his forthcoming EP, ‘boy’, scheduled for release on 26 April, along with the release of his latest single ‘Shakes’, which offers a preview of the EP’s melancholic yet beautiful essence. Reflecting on ‘Shakes’, Hemmings shares, “‘Shakes’ was written on a dreary NYC evening in between long periods of being on the road. This made it come naturally to write from a melancholy place and feeling of yearning to be back home and feeling lonely and emotionally depleted. There is a longing for love and self-acceptance in the lyrics and I hope it to be a song and feeling that anyone listening can find themselves in and attach their own story.”

As the lead vocalist of 5 Seconds of Summer, 27-year-old Luke Hemmings has sold millions of records, toured the globe numerous times, accumulated billions of streams, and become one of Australia’s most successful musical exports.

Hemmings now explores his individual musical identity, drawing inspiration from influences like LCD Soundsystem and the Cocteau Twins. Produced in collaboration with Sammy Witte, known for his work with artists like Harry Styles and Maggie Rogers, ‘boy’ promises a unique sonic journey through Hemmings’ deepest musical passions.

With his solo career, Hemmings delves into self-discovery, experimentation, and maturity. His debut solo EP, ‘When Facing The Things You Turn Away From’, released in 2021, received acclaim for its mesmerizing and immersive qualities, setting the stage for the upcoming release of ‘boy’.

Critics praise Hemmings’ evolution as a solo artist, describing his music as “self-assured and confident,” with an underlying excitement bubbling beneath the surface. As 2024 unfolds, fans can anticipate more growth and exploration from Luke Hemmings, as he continues to carve his path as a solo artist.
