The two-day stint at Melbourne University’s Union Theatre will give dance enthusiasts one last chance to see Chunky Move’s spectacular production before they take the show globally, kicking off a six-city tour in London at the Southbank Centre, the UK’s largest arts centre.
Directed and choreographed by Chunky Move’s artistic director and co-CEO Antony Hamilton, 4/4 is a trance-inducing meditation of meticulous dance that combines choreographic precision with minimalist design and rugged street aesthetics.
Eight dancers embark on an episodic performance, unfolding segment by segment, with each building energetically upon the last, while quartets and duets converge and diverge in a kaleidoscope of configurations.
With the exceptional cast coming together to meld dance from a diverse range of disciplines including street, contemporary, theatre and ballet, this is one act you don’t want to miss.
Speaking about the return of 4/4, Hamilton said, “Chunky Move has enjoyed a long-standing reputation internationally as a dance company with a distinctive Australian voice like no other. The dancers of 4/4 bring this voice into sharp focus, with their incredible precision and grit for endurance, embodying the choreographic language with style and technical mastery.
“The whole ensemble and team are excited to take this 2023 hit work to the world stage, and we can’t wait to share with audiences across Europe after our tour kicks off in our home city of Naarm.”
As the hype begins to build for Chunky Move’s hometown shows, their bold, genre-defying 4/4 is undoubtedly worth seeing before they take it worldwide. You’ll have to move quick though as tickets are getting snapped up by the second!
Tickets range from $25-$50 and are available to purchase via Eventbrite.
