Menya SanDaime (“third generation noodle shop”) has opened up shop on Russell Street, serving up four dishes of ramen around the clock. The restaurant is already an established chain in South Korea and the United States but the first in Melbourne, wiith further expansion set to take place over the next three years.
Opened by Kevin Pak with the aim of bringing Tokyo nightlife to Melbourne, the restaurant’s interior takes a page out of modern ramen shops. Giant TV panels set against timber walls show Koreans and Japanese food programs and staff don colourful uniforms. Looking to text a mate about where you’re heading next but your phone has run out of battery? No worries, the bar is equipped is power points for patrons to charge their phones, just like in Japan.
As for the food, the 38 seat joint features a menu of four ramen dishes, ranging from their signature tsukemen to spicy black ramen, served with 60-hour chargrilled barbeque pork. Along with their killer ramen, Menya SanDaime also offers a night menu with drunchy snacks like fried chicken, gyoza, takoyaki and hotpot. Best of all, nothing is over $15.
