24-hour transport on weekends will continue throughout major Melbourne events, including the Australian Open and major music festivals.
For an extra six months, trains, trams and buses will run through the early hours throughout summer and into mid-2017.
While the government has not yet committed to permanent 24-hour transport, the extended trial will allow a thorough examination of the project’s effectiveness.
As reported by The Age, currently 35,000 people use the Night Network on weekends, with more than 20 percent of passengers working in hospitality and other late-night industries.
