2013 Meredith Music Festival Rumour Roundup

Let’s start with the obvious – both Nile Rodgers with Chic and Melvins will be playing. We know this already. And who definitely isn’t playing? As we’ve already revealed in our Big Day Out rumour roundup, you can lock in Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear and The Roots for Falls, and it looks like XXYYXX, HAERTS, Arthur Beatrice, The Yum Dee Days and Factory Floor will be making an appearance a few months later at Laneway. Taylor Swift and City and Colour are playing shows in Melbourne that weekend, but let’s be serious, they ain’t coming to Meredith.

So. Who will be filling up the other 20-odd spots on the bill of the three-day extravaganza?

Yo La Tengo haven’t graced the Sup since their appearance at the 2006 Golden Plains, and with the release of their 13th studio album coming earlier this year the timing for a return couldn’t be better. You know who else ruled in 2006? Comets on Fire. Get ’em back please, Aunty. TV On The Radio broke the hearts of Victorian fans last month when they played exclusively at Splendour, the perfect way to mend them would be to visit Meredith, no? Washed Out, No Age, Volcano Choir and Eric Copeland have just dropped new records and are no doubt ready to hit the road. Omar Souleyman and Four Tet are currently working on an album together and have both appeared at Meredith before. Also why hasn’t Jonathan Richman or Pissed Jeans ever played at Meredith? That’d rule.

Who will be keeping the party going all the way into the early morn’? Tim Sweeney is a Meredith favourite. Psychemagik, Smallpeople, Alexkid, Zed Bias and Andrew Weatherall will both be in the country come December. Moodymann killed it at Golden Plains earlier this year but he’s in town a month prior, so how about another Detroit luminary? Omar-S, Theo Parrish or Kyle Hall perhaps? Would it be too risky to invite back DJ Harvey after the 2011 Meredith incident?

Local lasses Beaches have just released another killer record and are no strangers to the Sup. The almighty King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have their sophomore album incoming and would play a welcome Meredith encore, as does Adalita. Ooga Boogas, Total Control, Wintercoats, The Townhouses, Dick Diver and Baptism Of Uzi have all been killing it lately and would make welcome local additions. Oh, and would someone get goddamn Donny Benet on the bill already?

Also, if anyone has a good recipe for a killer goon punch then hit me up. I’m saving up for a vacation and am going to have to keep myself away from the Pink Flamingo.
