Mango Lounge Bar
Not that long ago you had to go into the city if you wanted a decent cocktail. Or any sort of cocktail, for that matter. As Melbourne has grown and expanded that has gradually changed and the last five years have seen boutique bars creeping out of the CBD and into the suburbs. Mango Lounge, in Moonee Ponds, is one such bar. With a minimal, cubist approach to decor, there's nothing suburban about the interior design at Mango Lounge. Combine this with dynamic lighting and you end up with a striking mix of chocolate leather booths against stark yellow walls - the sort of thing you might expect to find in a city nightclub... or a space station. The ambiance is further enhanced by a mix of 1960's/1970's rare groove, jazz and funk, piped through the speakers during the week. On weekends you'll find house music DJs behind the turntables and folks cutting a little rug. The drinks selection is just as cosmopolitan and places a heavy emphasis on cocktails, which are complimented by imported beers and a decent wine range. A selection of tapas is also on hand to keep you nourished amid all the suburban drinking. In other words, you'll never have to leave Moonee Ponds again.
