Base Backpackers & Red Eye Bar
Backpacker hostels have come a long way in the last decade. While they were once seen as the last refuge of the damned, the industry has seen sweeping changes and a huge injection of cash in recent times. These days you'll find ultra-modern design and decor, knowledgeable staff and plenty of opportunity to make the most of the city you're visiting. Located within Base Backpackers, Red Eye Bar takes those elements to heart. It's sleek, modern and friendly. Not what you'd expect from a backpackers bar. The decor certainly doesn't scream backpackers. Featuring industrial flooring, a red and chocolate colour scheme and ample seating, Red Eye Bar looks like any contemporary bar you might find in the CBD. The drinks selection is equally cosmopolitan, taking in the usual selection of imported beers and cocktails and whatever dangerous shots the staff can come up with. If you're a cheap date, check out the regular happy hours for something affordable. And there are certainly plenty of shots being had. At the end of the day Red Eye Bar is a backpacker bar and you're probably aware of what that entails. In a nutshell: lots of travellers looking to have a good time and maybe meet a special someone for the evening. With DJs on hand Friday and Saturday night, the place is certainly dedicated to partying.
