She and Him : Christmas Party

8

She & Him’s second Christmas offering is filled with Christmas classics just waiting to be played over a Christmas lunch, or in the sleepy depths of the food-coma laden afternoon.

Sweet and moreish like a Christmas dessert, Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward have created a seasonal record that hits the right notes, and manages to distinguish itself from being just another Christmas album with their signature sound.

Opening with quintessential Christmas tune All I Want For Christmas Is You sets the tone, a song that even the staunchest Grinch can’t help but tap their toe to. Hawaiian-themed Christmas classic Mele Kalikimaka breaks up the more traditional festive tracks with Deschanel’s signature ukulele vibes more than at home.
M. Ward takes the vocals in Run Run Rudolph, with classic doo-wop rock, progressively adding to the unique sound that makes this a special Christmas album.  Deschanel has a beautiful voice, that’s undeniable, and her few moments singing in December favourite Elf definitely give reason for her to indulge an audience in her rich, Christmas tones.

If you’re looking for a fresh take on Christmas that still gets you in the mood for festive fun, this is a wonderful option. Now, where’s my pavlova?
