All Ages

With Declan Burgess

Ohhhh boy this weekend is a long one, jam-packed with festivals and sandwiched between cool gig after cool gig. On that note it’s a good thing everyone gets Monday off so they can roll down and throw down to the Stepson sideshow at Wrangler Studios on Sunday March 12. After selling out the Melbourne leg of their Australian tour with Storm The Sky there was such a uproar for Stepson that Wrangler demanded they play an all ages afternoon show. The high octane boys bring their brand of biodegradable melodic hardcore to Footscray with fellow tour members Aburden, pop-punk prophets Distances and the infectious Fever Speak.

Also on this weekend is Moomba Festival. It is like a three day, three course dinner where all the food is extreme sport, fireworks or live music. Served from Friday March 10 until Monday March 13, with a whole platter of tasty entertainment like wakeboarding, skateboarding, sand sculpting, and roller disco, as well as The Birdman Rally. There’s also sets from acts like The Hornets, The Suspects, Afro Occidental, and North City. The whole thing goes down along the Yarra River near Birrarung Marr and if you’re in the CBD at any time this weekend it will be hard to miss. Check the schedule on Moomba’s website if you’re after anything in particular.

Have you heard about M.E.S.S in North Melbourne? It’s a cool, cutting edge synth museum and studio and they are looking for new members as they start their new sessions in Autumn. M.E.S.S is a retirement home for all weird, old and loud synthesisers with a garden where any curious interloper can grope knobs and wipe the dust of some keys under the supervision of aficionados. Joining the M.E.S.S collective grants access to any old world oscillator in their collection that your heart desires within a modern studio environment. It’s cool and expansive and you can find out more about it on their website.
