MICF UPDATES

The Imperial Hotel just announced that they’ve added an extra show of The Vick Van Dyke Show next Monday at 7pm. This might be your last chance to see Victoria Healy perform her show this festival, so be sure to head down to the Imperial Hotel. In other news, Ivan Aristeguieta has sold out his entire run, save for one date: an extra show, added Sat Apr 16, 9:45pm at Max Watt’s. It’s a safe bet that tickets won’t last long, so book now and see one of the festival’s most popular shows.

Meanwhile, Jen Kirkman is set to perform her final show of the festival, 9:15pm tonight at the Arts Centre Melbourne. Building upon her successful 2015, Kirkman’s latest show revolves around six short stories from times in her life when she thought she knew what she was doing – but she didn’t. Again, this is your last opportunity to see her perform at the festival, so book ASAP.

Isabella Valette has been seeing stars lately – in print, online, you name it. Basically, she’s been receiving outstanding reviews and her season of Princesstuous looks set to continue that trend. Directed by Fiona Scott-Norman, Princesstuous is infused with stand up, character comedy, beat poems, rap, song and a sprinkle of jazz. You can catch Valette strutting her stuff Tue-Sun 5.30pm at the Butterfly Club, but hurry: only five shows remain.

MICF MAIN MEALS (Prime Time, 7pm-10pm)

Headliners

If you’re after a super-sized showcase of international comedians this festival, Headliners is probably your first port of call – particularly if you’re a fan of US comedy. Billed as “a star-spangled showcase of North America’s hottest comedy”, Headliners’ bill for the rest of the season features Daniel Koren, Ian Edwards, Mark Normand, and Sara Schaefer. Head on over to the Melbourne Town Hall for your fix of American comedy, Tue-Sat 9.45pm and Sun 8.45pm

Comedy Zone

You might be familiar with the faces that make up the Comedy Zone this year: they’re all Raw Comedy alumni. Angus Gordon, Jess Perkins,Pat McCaffrie, Andrew Wolfe and Sam Taunton have been handpicked by the festival as some of the most exciting prospects in local comedy. We’ve seen them in action and they’re all destined for big things. Get in now before they’re famous. Remember: we told you so. Catch them Tue-Sat 8.15pm and Sun 7.15pm at Trades Hall.

Comedy Zone Asia

Directed by Bob Franklin, Comedy Zone Asia looks to build upon its debut season in 2015 with another international showcase. Treat yourself to some culturally diverse comedy with MC Sharul Channa (Singapore), comedian, actor and screenwriter Storm Xu (China), bilingual comedian Andrew Chu (Hong Kong), GB Labrador (Philippines) and Daniel Fernandes (India). Make them welcome at the Melbourne Town Hall, Tue-Sat 7pm and Sun 6pm.

MICF DESSERTS (Late Shows, 10pm onwards)

The After Party

The After Party at the Exford may be one of the most notoriously difficult gigs for comics, but that’s probably what makes it so fun for punters. The show returns for its 12th year and entry remains absolutely free, making The After Party one of the best ways to sample the sorts of things the festival has to offer. Get down to The Exford Hotel and check out the smash-hit variety show that has been dubbed a festival institution, Mon-Thu 10.30pm, Fri-Sat 11pm, and Sun 10.30pm.
