In today’s MICF Daily News:

– The Melbourne International Comedy Festival starts today, with 95 shows launching on night one of festival. Taking place over the next 26 days, the Comedy Festival will host 400 plus shows across 100 plus venues. Kicking off the festival will be the Opening Night All Stars Supershow, taking place at St Kilda’s Palais Theatre. The show will feature a variety of local and international acts, and will be hosted by Tom Gleeson. A full listing of all tonight’s shows are available on the Comedy Festival website.

– Changes are already a foot with UK favourite Sarah Millican cutting her festival run short. Originally scheduled for the first fortnight of the festival, Millican will now be performing shows from tonight through Tuesday April 2. In addition to the change, Millican’s venue for shows on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday have been moved from the Victoria Hotel to the Forum Theatre. If you are a ticket holder for shows from Wednesday April 3 onwards, contact Ticketmaster on 1300 660 013 to move into another performance.

– The Tuxedo Cat have announced a new location for the 2013 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The new Tuxedo Cat is located at 17-23 Willis Street in the city, located near Flagstaff Station. And with the new location in place, extra shows have been added to the venue. Apart from the already sold out trial run of Daniel Kitson, the room has announced Soul Bank – a very special late night variety show taking place on Fridays at midnight. The show will run on a “pay what you like” basis, and be hosted by Alasdair Tremblay-Birchall and Pat Burtscher. We will have the full lineup of acts this Friday on MICF Daily.

– Also newly announced is a pair of shows at Trades Hall. Popular podcast The Sweetest Plum will tape a pair of live episodes Thursday April 11 and 18th at 11pm. Also announced for April 13 is Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough: A Tribute To The Songs of Michael Jackson. The Tribute show put together by Cam Bruce and Tripod‘s Scott Edgar will feature a variety of Melbourne’s finest musos and comedians belt out MJ tunes in order to benefit the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. Tickets for both shows are on sale at the Bella Union website.

– Jay Morrissey has taken out the title of RAW Comedy Victorian Champion. Morrissey, who will appear festival show #bollard with fellow RAW finalist Suren Jayemanne competed against the cream of Melbourne’s up and coming stand up scene to win the spot through to the RAW Comedy Grand Final. Other winners included Queenland’s Cameron Duggan, New South Wales’ Aaron Chen, and Demi Lardner from South Australia. The RAW Comedy Grand Final takes place Sunday April 14 at the Town Hall. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster

– And while it may be the first night of the festival, variety shows are off and kicking. Get a taste of the festival with shows such as The Early Show, Comedy Pick n Mix, Comedy-Oke, 100% Nuts, Checkpoint Charlie, AAAAAAAARGH! It’s a Bonanza of Festival Comedy from the UK!, The After Party, and St Kilda Comedy at Felix Bar.
