Today on the program: Adam Knox. Adam is involved in three separate shows this year. Listen Closely, We Haven’t Much Time opens March 30, 6pm at the Imperial Hotel. Chimp Cop, Adam’s sketch show opens April 6, 10.15pm at the Imperial Hotel. And World Record Show is on every Monday of the festival, 9pm at the Melbourne Town Hall.

Today’s MICF Daily News Update:

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival begins today, with the Opening Night Comedy All-Star Supershow officially opening proceedings. Featuring a variety of local and international acts, the sold out show takes place 7.30pm tonight at St Kilda’s Palais Theatre.

A whopping 101 other shows open their festival runs tonight, with the first two being two showcase shows at the Imperial Hotel – 5 for 5 at 5, and The 5pm Sketch Showcase. A daily diary to everything happening at the fest today can be found at the Comedy Festival website.

SPECIAL EVENT: 774 ABC Melbourne airs its annual Comedy Bites special tonight. A radio teaser for the fest, Evenings host Lindy Burns is joined by Lawrence Leung to showcase a number of great acts on at MICF. Tune into 774 from 8pm tonight, or stream it abc.net.au.

SHORT RUNS: A number of shows kick off short runs tonight at the festival. Don’t blink or you’ll miss the following acts:

Collingwood’s Grumpy’s Green hosts Situation Comedy and their Alternative Comedy Situation throughout the festival. Tonight see Alisa Dunlop at 8pm, Tony Magnuson at 9pm, and Jackson Clarke at 10pm, with different shows on throughout the fest.

Over at Richmond’s Station 59 the 59 Free Comedy Festival starts, with six acts hitting the stage with their own half-hour comedy specials. First show starts at 6.15pm.

If it’s comedic argument you’re after, Farouk’s Olive in Thornbury hosts the first of four Farouk’s Comedy Debates. The verbal sparring bell is rung at 9pm.

And late-night showcase show The After Party gets things rocking and rolling tonight at 10.30pm. Entry for all shows once again is free.

EXTRA SHOWS: It’s the first day of the festival and already extra shows have been added!

Ireland’s favourite Jason Byrne has added an edition of 20 Years a Clown, 11pm Saturday at the Forum Theatre.

And future MICF Daily guest Dan Pavatich will perform one more edition of Please Stay. Tuesday April 7, 7.15pm at Highlander Bar.
