Midsumma Festival returns from 21 January – 12 February with over 200 events showcasing queer culture, featuring local, interstate, and international artists in spectacular performances, talks and social events.
New for 2023 is A Safe(R) Space, comprising of 21 works, which is an artistic exploration of intersectional identity between different facets of queer communities. The program will look at what defines a safe space for artists and communities, uncovering a range of work from artists across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum and how artists come together to collaborate and create within a resourced environment.
As well as the 200+ events across Melbourne and Victoria, major Midsumma event days include: Midsumma Carnival – 22 January – Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne; Midsumma Pride March – 5 February – Fitzroy Street and Catani Gardens, St Kilda; and Victoria’s Pride – 12 February – Smith St and Gertrude St, Fitzroy/Collingwood.
Midsumma is Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural organisation. Sharing the lived experiences of voices at the margins, expressions of queer history, and the celebration of new ideas and stories that come to life through world-class art and performance.
