A huge slate of films have been unveiled for the blockbuster event.

The Melbourne International Film Festival has additional shared details of the films supported this year by its Premiere Fund. The fund assists Aussie filmmakers in producing new films that will make their premiere at the festival. This year, seven national and international premieres, all partially funded by the MIFF Premiere Fund, are taking place.

One film released as part of the fund is No Time For Quiet, directed by Hylton Shaw and Samantha Dinning. The film follows a group of girls and genderfluid youth understanding the power of music at a Girls Rock! camp in Melbourne. What’s more, it features Courtney Barnett as one of the camp’s mentors, in addition to an appearance from punk trio Cable Ties.

Hugo Weaving stars in Measure for Measure, a reimagining of Shakespeare’s well-known play. Also set in Melbourne, the film tells the story of Jaiwara, a young Muslim woman who falls in love with Claudio, a non-Muslim musician.

This announcement follows the first look at MIFF’s program this year. Notable productions on the bill so far include the long-awaited documentary The Australian Dream, starring former AFL player Adam Goodes.

The 2019 Melbourne International Film Festival takes place between Thursday August 1 and Saturday August 18. For more information, head to theĀ MIFF website.
