At face value, you might wonder if Amyl and the Sniffers are on a ‘70s rock culture trip.  After all, lead singer Amy Taylor has a haircut that’s equal parts Bowie, Cherie Currie and Broadmeadows sharpie.

The band’s three-chord punk rock riffs would bring a tear to Kim Fowley’s eye.  Then there’s Amyl and the Sniffers’ catchy track 70s Street Munchies, with its subliminal...

In 2011, boutique label Now-Again Records released Those Shocking Shaking Days, a compilation of Indonesian hard, psychedelic, progressive and funk rock bands from the 1970s.

For Indonesian rock’n’roll fans such as Rektivianto Yoewono, guitarist with Indonesian heavy rock band Mooner, the realisation that bands such as Panbers, The Brims, AKA, The Gang of Harry Roesli and...

There aren’t many bands who have a cake created and named in their honour.  In fact, apart from Wollongong heavy metal band Totally Unicorn, none spring to mind.

So it is with a mixture of pride and amusement that Totally Unicorn singer Drew Gardner concedes that the story of the Totally Unicorn beetroot cake in former MasterChef contestant Poh Ling Yeoh’s Same But Different...

Living in Melbourne’s inner north. What’s not to love about the northside? I don’t think I could ever leave. Moving to Melbourne from Adelaide, I love this city, and although the southside is great, you can’t beat walking down the road to the Tote, Old Bar, The Bendigo to have a beer and watch local bands or going out for a bender at Yah Yah’s.
Actual drugs. Let’s get this out of...

The poster for this year’s annual Cherry Rock festival features a kangaroo wearing a cut-off denim jacket, staring out from the page with menacing eyes.

Behind the poster art lies a story, and James Young, Cherry Bar owner and booker and principal organising mind behind Cherry Rock, wants to tell it.

Does everyone get along well on the road? We've all known each other a bunch of years and done some road trips together which means we know each other well enough to praise, poke and hang shit on each and still be the best o' pals.
If you each had to play in one of your bands for the rest of your lives, which would it be? Datura4, obviously, it's a here and now rock’n’...

Who came up with the idea for the Death Acoustic Tour? Death acoustic was an idea I had a long time ago and I've been doing live acoustic shows for ten years on and off, in between band tours to fill in time. This particular tour with Christian from Beats Cartel grew from Mojo Burning festival in Brisbane and the idea to book a tour around it.
Is the nudity planned, or...

With a name like Matt Savage, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the lead singer of Melbourne post-punk rising stars Destrends has had his fair share of wild gigs.

The provocateur and bandleader has an electrifying presence live, constantly pushing his band’s hooky melodies into wilder and wilder territory – and yes, every now and then, things start to buckle a little under that...
