Making A Door Less Open is four years in the making.
US indie rockers Car Seat Headrest have announced their first album since 2016’s seminal Teens Of Denial, due to drop in May. Titled Making A Door Less Open, the record has been a labour of love across the past four years.
The album will see Car Seat Headrest exploring a different sonic route than what we’ve heard on their past efforts, collaborating with vocalist Will Toledo and drummer Andrew Katz’s electronic side project 1 Trait Danger.
Recorded twice, once with live guitars, drums and bass and once using nothing but synthesized sounds, the process behind Making A Door Less Open has been meticulous.
“The songs contain elements of EDM, hip hop, futurism, doo-wop, soul, and of course rock and roll,” says Toledo of the album. “But underneath all these things I think these may be folk songs, because they can be played and sung in many different ways, and they’re about things that are important to a lot of people: anger with society, sickness, loneliness, love.”
Car Seat Headrest have also delivered the first taste of the forthcoming album with the single ‘Can’t Cool Me Down’. Check it out below.
