Bangarra Dance Company To Present Our Land People Stories

Entitled, Our Land People Stories, the trio of performances features work from acclaimed artistic director Stephen Page, who is celebrating his 25th year as artistic director of the company. In his latest creation for Bangarra, he has experimented with turning the visual art works of popular Indigenous painter Nyapanyaya Yunupingu into movement pieces.

Also on the bill includes the work of Jasmin Sheppard, with her dance, Macq (first performed in 2013 during Dance Clan 3) – a piece which explores the 1816 March of Macquarie, an event which saw Sydney’s Aboriginal community decimated.

Hitting the stage is also a piece by choreographers Daniel Riley and Beau Dean Riley Smith, entitled Miyagan, which translates to ‘our family’ – a dance story mapping the cultural heritage of Wiradjuri country in New South Wales.
