Celebrating the connections between Asian communities and contemporary Australia.

The triennial Asia TOPA festival will return to Melbourne next year and today, we’ve been given a taste of what’s to come.

Next year’s program comes jam-packed with music, dance, theatre, contemporary performance and films produced by artists from 17 Asia-Pacific countries — including 30 brand new works.

Notable highlights from next year’s program include the world premiere of Black Ties, a theatre collaboration between Australia’s Ilbijerri Theatre Company and New Zealand’s Te Rēhia Theatre Company. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Chinese New Year concert will return for its seventh year, conducted by Yi Zheng and featuring rising star pianist Jiene Wan. Finally, be sure to catch literary star Benjamin Law’s playwright debut with Torch The Place, presented in partnership with Melbourne Theatre Company.

This is just one slice of the 2020 Asia TOPA program, with the full program to be revealed on Tuesday November 12.

Asia TOPA runs between January and March 2020 at venues across Melbourne. For more info, head to the festival website.
