It’s one of many ways APRA AMCOS is supporting artists during the COVID-19 crisis.

In a bid to support songwriter, composer and publisher members amidst the coronavirus crisis currently impacting the live music sector, APRA AMCOS has announced it will bring forward its live performance royalty payments to May.

Usually distributed in November, APRA AMCOS will fast track live performance royalty payments in an effort to reduce the financial strain caused by mass gig cancellations and venue closures on artists.

“We know we need to get money into the pockets of our members quickly and efficiently – we distribute domestic royalties quarterly and royalties coming in from overseas on a monthly rolling basis – effectively 16 distributions per year. Our commitment to this will not change,” said Chief Executive Dean Ormston.

“We are working with our sector colleagues, not just across the music sector, but also the broader cultural and creative industries to advocate to government for urgent financial assistance for both individuals and the breadth of businesses vital to the contemporary music industry ecosystem,” he added.

In addition to bringing forward the royalty payments, APRA AMCOS is also campaigning for local content support, reduced business costs and urgent government support for the music industry and wider arts sector.
