It comes as a move to reinforce gender equality and equal gender representation, following a push from lobby group the Committee for Melbourne.
The Equal Crossings initiative will roll out at the intersection of Swanston and Flinders Streets, with a VicRoads-sanctioned trial to run for 12 months.

Following the trial, organisers will seek to implement a one-to-one ratio of male and female representation at crossings throughout Victoria.
