Hip hop, house, dance hall and breaking – no matter the style, these dancers will show up and throw down.

Every year, L2R Dance hosts a Block Party for dancers from far and wide to come together and show the world what they’ve got.

On the afternoon of October 28, they’ll be taking over the lush greens of Footscray Community Arts for a showcase and dance battle like no other.

“The creative chaos and community connections that ooze from the L2R Block Party are extraordinarily contagious. Bring the whole fam, this is one event where the kids can yell, scream, get up and most importantly get down. OH, and pack your (ti)ssues – well I always do as the talent is beyond and the hype is real!” says Jacinda Richards, L2R Dance founder, CEO and artistic director.

Based in Melbourne’s West, the not-for-profit organisation provides free dance classes, arts leadership opportunities and employment pathways for young people who are traditionally underrepresented or absent from mainstream arts and culture.

This year’s Block Party dance battle is kicking it up a notch, bringing in esteemed judges including MaggZ, Demi Sorono and Trip. The crews will compete to take home a $1000 prize.

“As a member of Melbourne’s Afro-Dancehall community, I’m super honoured to be joining our L2R family for this year’s Block Party. It’s nothing but love when we all get to jam together and the whole crew have something special planned for this year’s event, so you won’t want to miss out on these unforgettable vibes!” says Cat Sweeney, founding member of Jungle City and Melbourne Afro Dancehall Community.

The event will also feature free face painting and eats from Beatbox Kitchen and Rainbow Fairy Floss.
