Hand-picked by the ACF to receive a $5,000 grant, the Alchemy works promise to celebrate the Convent’s architecture, environment, people and history.

With three works on the bill, punters can look forward to a range of mediums featured throughout including dance, theatre and art installations.

Cross-disciplinary duo Alex Akers and Helen Fitzgerald will install their work in the Convent courtyard from May 4 until May 31. Taking inspiration from the local flora and fauna, the piece will include everything from robotics and 3D printed works to natural materials. It’s complimented with a range of sonic elements that will air across the courtyard.

Alice Dixon, Caroline Meaden and William McBride will present their cross-discipline work, inspired by the experiences of a young woman performing liturgical dances at a Catholic high school. Peculiar, rigorously physical and with the promise of absurd humour, the performance is titled Fallen O’er and will run at the Convents’ Mural Hall.

Lastly, Mural Hall will also see performances from award-winning theatre company, Rawcus, as they bring their new work, Cross My Heart (And Hope) to the stage on May 28 and 29. Exploring resilience and hope in the face of adversity, the company are renowned for their sculptural approach.
